Announcement
The Marcus Foundation and the Georgia Aquarium have acquired for public display “Blue Fish 2003” a painting by Bruce G Newman.
Blue Fish 2003 is an oil on canvass (60”X72”) created primarily of pigments of the artist own making as well as commercial products. This work is the final and largest work in a series of a series of eight dichromatic fish.
Thematically the picture is an allegory of the Atlanta’s thriving contemporary life offering promise for success. The subject “fish” is no specific genus of fish rather it is an abstracted concept of fish-ness. The background of a murky distressed background flowing around the fish representing the problems of survival in an ever changing environment.
The Artist Bruce G. Newman, an Atlanta resident, works with paints made from materials the artist collects locally as well as commercial preparations. Newman is only represented in Europe where his work can be found in the private collections.
The picture was donated by friends in honor of Michael Morris in recognition of the contribution to the community by Bernie Marcus and the Marcus foundation.
